  • SchoolTutoring has played an important role in improving our son's confidence and attitude towards school. His grades have also improved steadily throughout the school year.

    - Janice and Dan -- San Francisco, California
  • My daughter was able to improve her test scores after a few months of tutoring with SchoolTutoring. However, while raising test scores is great, the real payoff is in the self-confidence that she gained.

    - Anita V. -- Markham, Ontario
  • I just wanted to send a quick note to say thank-you! My son is very impressed with his tutor and looks forward to each session. What’s particularly amazing about this is our son has never really looked forward to math…or school for that matter!

    - Sheila B -- Phoenix, Arizona
  • We are so happy with the results of your tutoring program and academic support. Homework time was such a stressful evening for the entire family before we brought your tutors into our home. Thank you for all your help!

    - Gupta Family -- Vancouver, BC
  • Our daughter, a first grader, struggled with basic reading and handwriting. When she began with SchoolTutoring she was almost a year behind her class. Within a year of being enrolled, she is reading above her grade level and has the confidence to match.

    - Lisa A. -- New York, NY
  • SchoolTutoring really helped me with my math classes. I was shocked when I got my first semester math test back – an A! My tutor and I are working on going beyond memorizing formulas and trying to really understand the concepts.

    - Anthony M. -- Grade 12 Student, Toronto

Meet Jane W. - Certified SAT/ACT Tutor

My name is Jane and I am a 23-year-old recent college graduate living in California. I have been tutoring professionally for about two and half years now; I began volunteering at after-school tutoring programs in the Oakland, CA area. There, I was able to tutor a lot of students from a wide range of age and backgrounds (all of the students had recently immigrated and were learning English as a second language). It was through this experience that I discovered my passion for teaching and assisting students in broadening their understanding of difficult concepts. I also have teaching experience at the University of California, Berkeley, where I both created and instructed a 2-unit course on Burmese politics for a total of two semesters (through a program in which undergraduate students can instruct their own class of undergraduate students). Currently, I tutor mainly on the topics of math and English (ranging from a second grade level to a high school level) and I also tutor Spanish. Aside from tutoring, I am an aspiring law student and am currently in the process of completing law school applications. I hope to venture into the field of U.S. immigration law.

My Tutoring Areas

  • SAT English and math
  • ACT English and math
  • General English and math ranging between elementary to high school levels.
  • Introductory Spanish

My Educational Background

I received a Bachelor's degree in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) in May of 2012. During the course of my collegiate studies, I also completed elective units in creative writing courses. Though English was not my first language, my love of literature and writing impelled me to pursue these areas of study. In addition, I was able to take courses at UC Berkeley that related to international politics, which ignited my interest in law and the language of law.

My Educational Philosophy

My educational philosophy is very simple. I try to remember all the learning blocks that I had as a young student (being uninterested in the subject, not being able to address all my questions, not understanding the basics enough to move onto new concepts, lack of practice, unclear explanations, etc.) and I try to address them in my students. No matter what material it is I am teaching, I try to be very patient and leave a lot of room for questions to be asked. I believe that in teaching, the instructor must have a truly genuine interest in her student's success. The idea of success, for me, also extends beyond the curriculum; I want to instill good study habits and learning methods for future success as well. Overall, I would describe myself as a helpful tutor. I am just here to help.

My Hobbies

In my free time, I love reading a good book, watching TV, hiking, swimming, spending time with family and friends, and cooking (or trying to cook, at least). I also have a 4-year-old maltese named Bubba (I am a huge dog lover) and I especially love taking him on walks around my neighborhood. I also live in San Diego so I enjoy spending my days at the beach (when the weather permits).
